摘要
敬语是中国式礼貌的一大特点。如何全面、准确地将之译入到英语中,并使之与英语文化相容,是相当有挑战性的工作。以《红楼梦》的五个英译本为语料,首先探讨这些译本如何将原著前十二回中的"兄"、"先生"转换到英语中,然后再从语义和语言形式两方面将译语与源语进行对比,从中发现译语在再现汉语尊他这一特殊文化现象及其价值观念上的得失。
Polite address or respectful remarks is one of the characteristics in Chinese way of politeness. And yet it can be a hard nut for the translators to put Chinese respectful or polite address into English properly and accurately to make it harmonious with English cultural context. This essay has argued that the English translation either by English or Chinese has not fully represented the peculiar cultural connotation or law of value of the Chinese polite address, by a comparative study of how XIONG, X1ANSHENG which stay frequently in the former 12 chapters of the Chinese classic novel A Dream of Red Mansions on the basis of the five English versions by five different translators of the classic work, qualitative and quantitative analysis is made from the respects of semantic meaning and linguistic form.
