The English Reformation redefined the duty of secular powers towards the Church:'the Supreme Head of the Church' was obliged not only to defend the faith,but also to promote religious unity and concord.The new definition led inevitably to political solutions to the problem of diverse opinions among radicals and conservatives.The three formularies of faith set forth by religious authorities during the reign of Henry VIII were of great significance in the production of this new definition.
