Research on PPPoE Communication Procedure Based on Wireshark

利用网络协议嗅探软件Wireshark,在电信ADSL客户端环境下捕获并详细分析了PPPoE协议的通信过程,指出了伴随PPPoE通信产生的相关问题及解决方法:在ADSL Modem或路由器配置中应避免MTU单元过大引起封包分片,以至于使传输效率下降;应避免通信双方所协商的MSS值过大引起封包分片,致使某些网站无法浏览或电子邮件附件无法成功发送;此外,指出PPPoE组播通信应用有一定的局限性.

The communication procedure of PPP over Ethernet protocol was acquired and analyzed in details by using network sniffer- Wireshark on telecom ADSL client side. A series of problems and the solving methods related to PPPoE are given here： In ADSL Modem configuration or router parameters configuration to avoid IP packet fragmentation caused by extra large MTU which will decrease the transmission efficiency; Also to avoid IP packet fragmentation caused by the extra large value of MSS in the negotiation between sender and receiver to which may result in web pages assess denied or attachment of E-mail sending unsuccessfully, and certain limitation for application such as IP multicast in PPPoE exists.
