改革开放以来,在中国政府的大力鼓励和支持下,海外乡亲积极地捐款捐物,支持广州侨乡的工农业生产。捐赠历经起步、发展、高潮、持续和衰落五个阶段,呈现出区域的集中化、方式的多样化、受赠主体的集体化等特征。海外乡亲的捐赠,大大提高了广州侨乡工农业生产总值,改变了侨乡工农业落后的面貌,改善了侨乡经济结构,促进了侨乡农业商品化进程和工业化进程,为广州的经济建设做出了突出的贡献。
