Objective To analyze and evaluate the significance of the active -electroencephalogram (AEEG) in the diagnosis of paroxysmal diseases. Methods The AEEGs of 150 paroxysmal events with normal route EEGs were examined. Results Among all the 150 cases, 85 and 65 cases were diagnosed epileptic seizures (ES) and non - epileptic seizures (NES) at first, respectively. There were 60 ( 60/85, 70.58% ) cases and 12 ( 12/65,18.46% ) diagnosed as epilepsy in ES group and NES group, respectively. The uncharacteristic abnormality of AEEG were 7(7/85, 8.23% ) and 6 (6/65,9.23%) in ES group and NES group, respectively. 72 cases were diagnosed as epilepsy in the all (72/150,48%). Conclusion AEEG is a valuable method in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of paroxysmal events.
