汉语新词语英译基本转换型式研究——以《最新汉英特色词汇》为例

Patterns of Translating New Chinese Phrases into English——A Case Study of the 2006 Edition of New Chinese Phrases in English

汉语新词语英译是一个备受译界关注的课题。探讨汉语新词语英译的规律和方法具有重要的理论意义和现实意义。参考刘宓庆语际转换基本型式理论,考察了2006年版《最新汉英特色词汇》中汉语新词语及其英语译文,发现该词典编撰者使用了对应式转换、平行式转换、替代式转换和移植式转换四种语际转换基本型式。其中移植式转换型式与刘宓庆的冲突式转换型式不同。还对刘宓庆句子层面各种转换型式的使用比例与本文在词语层面各种转换型式的使用比例进行了比较,指出了它们的不同之处及其原因。

Translation of Chinese neologisms into English is a much concerned and very important subject in translation studies. Based on LIU Miqing＇s translation theory of four basic interlingual transformation patterns at sentence level, the authors investigated the major patterns applied in translating Chinese neologisms into English in the 2006-edition dictionary of New Chinese Phrases in English, compiled and published by China Daily Website. The authors found that four basic transformation patterns are used in translating Chinese neologisms into English, namely, correspondence, parallel, substitution, and transplanting. Among them, transplanting is different from LIU＇s conflicting. A comparison was made between the usage frequency of Liu＇s transformation patterns at sentence level and the frequency of the patterns at word level in the present paper. Their differences and causes were also addressed here.
