老舍小说中有众多"泼妇"形象,她们的特征是丑陋、贪图享受、性格粗暴而又妖媚惑众,在她们身上很难找到传统女性所具有的柔美和娇艳,更多的是像男子一般的强悍。老舍在描写这类形象时,在嘲讽与挖苦中表现出过多的厌恶、批判与谴责,其原因在于老舍先生是从传统的男权中心出发,对这类女性,做出了彻底的否定性的道德评价。
