The leading global enabler of telecommunications services Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) is standing at a strategic turning point in its history. According to reshearch firm Dell'Oro, NSN's second position on the wireless equipment market was replaced by China's homegrown telecom solutions provider Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (Huawei) in the last quarter. Another powerful rival, the Chinese telecom service provider ZTE Corporation (ZTE), is laos right behind. Though as a result of the marriage between two telecom giants-Nokia and Siemens AG, it took too much time for NSN to integrate two distinctive corporate cultures. After NSN finished the internal integration, the market has changed with rapid growth of its rivals. To avoid being taken by its competitors, NSN decided to cut its former five departments into three, focusing on software, hardware and service and addressing the business needs. It is also exploring hard on industry and application services before Huawei and ZTE take any moves. Whether NSN can go further or not depends on the Chinese market to some extend. With large growth potential but fierce competition, China is the only market that has generated sales increase for NSN. It has planned to move its research and development center to China and concentrate on the fourth generation technology, Long Term Evolution (LTE), in the hope to turn the tide in the future.
