Objective To identify bacteria from infections caused by intravenous catheter and its resistance to antibiotics. Methods The bacteria from interavenous cacheters and blood were cultured with BACT ALTER 120. The bacteria identified and susceptibility was made with VITEK AMS 60. A relationship was studied between the bacteria isolated rate and immune state. Results The positive results of 100 samples were obtained within 72 hours. The isolation rate in 24 hours was 69.50%. The total isolation rate was equal between G+ cocci and G- bacilli. In hematology department the infection rate of bacilli (63.2%) was higher than that of cocci (18.4%). In tumor surgery the infection rate of cocci (66.6%) was higher than that of bacilli (18.5%). The MRSA was 91.0% in staphylocci infection and MRCNS 77.8% in others G+ cocci. In the immunnocompromised group, the infection rate of fungi was 16.9% which was higher than in other group (2.9%). The results of susceptibility showed higher resistance to antibiotics of G- and G+ bacteria than that reported in China. Conclusions The kinds of bacteria were related immune state of patients. There was a serious resistance to antibiotics in all isolated becteria.
