History and Reality: a Theoretical Exploration of the Essence of Socialism

自邓小平提出重新认识社会主义的问题以来,围绕着"什么是社会主义"的主题,中国共产党坚持把马克思主义基本原理同推进马克思主义中国化结合起来,不断扩展和深化了对社会主义本质的认识。这一理论探索是从三个视角展开的:共同富裕和人的全面发展是社会主义的价值目标,生产资料公有制是社会主义的本质特征,社会和谐是中国特色社会主义的本质属性。社会主义的本质是一个内涵极其丰富的有机整体,对它的认识必将随着实践的发展而不断深化。深化对社会主义本质的认识是为了更好地开辟社会主义的未来,坚定走中国特色社会主义道路的信心。

Since Deng Xiaoping raised the issue of reconsidering socialism, the CPC has been adhering to the integration of fundamental principles of Marxism with the promoting of Chinese Marxism; and, around the theme of 'what is socialism', it has continuously extended and deepened the understanding of the essence of socialism. This theoretical exploration has been carried out in three perspectives: the socialist value objective of common prosperity and the full development of human being, the socialist essential feature of public ownership of the means of production, and the essential nature of socialism with Chinese characteristics of social harmony. The essence of socialism is an organic system which is extremely rich in implication, and the understanding of it will have to be constantly deepened with the development of practice. A deep understanding of the essence of socialism is to open up the socialist prospect better and enhance the confidence of taking the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
