The essay summarizes four development phases of modem dance in China since its introduction. Based on analysis of Cunningham＇s influence on modem dance in China, the writer points out while reflecting on our early practice of ＂borrowing＂ western modem dance technically and conceptually, people have realized objectively the advan- tages and disadvantages in Cunningham＇s dance creation.
