A complex, Cd(8-aminoql)(SCN)2 (1) (8-aminoql=8-aminoquinoline), was synthesized and structurally characterized. The Cd^2+ ion exhibits distorted octahedral coordination geometry and each SCN^-anions bridging the neighboring Cd(8-aminoql)^2+ units form a 2D sheet coordination polymer, and further extended into a 3D supramolecular structure through π-π weak interactions. The complex emits green luminescence at room temperature. CCDC: 737144.
