A Perspective Shift in Translation Studies:Functionalism and Extratextual Factors Reconsidered

翻译在很长一段时间内基本上是语言领域内的研究对象,本文则借助德国功能翻译理论试图强调语言之外的一些因素,如发起人、委托人、译者、目标文本使用者,会如何影响整个翻译的过程。其积极意义在于揭示翻译中的各方应如何各负其责又加强合作从而给合格译文的产生创造一个良好的外部环境,并减少劣质译文的存在。

Translation studies have been limited to the linguistic field for quite a long time and that is one of the reasons why this article is composed. Guided by functionalism, the authors hope to illustrate how some extratextual factors, e.g. initiator, commissioner, translator and target-text receiver can affect the whole translation process. It is hoped that responsibility and co- operation become the key in creating a positive environment for the birth of good target texts and the death of bad ones.
