Operation of Meaning: Relation between Pragmatics and Pragmatism

分别介绍了实用主义的哲学观和语言观以及语用学的研究视角,从四个方面分析了语用学研究与实用主义的思想渊源。认为语用学是在实用主义思潮影响下诞生的,尽管当代语用学派别林立,理论繁多,但是其基本精神和研究方法与实用主义哲学是一脉相承的,分析两者的思想渊源有利于更好地理解和把握语用研究的基本观点和方法。

This paper introduces the philosophic and linguisitc viewpoints of Pragmatism as well as the pespectives of Pragmatics, and analyzes the relation between Pragmatics and Pragmatism from four aspects in ideological origins. It claims that Pragmatics was born under the influence of Pragmatism. Modern pragmatics is rich in theories,but their basic spirit and research methods can be traced to the same origin with Pragmatism. The analysis of the ideological origins of both helps us to better understand and grasp the basic ideas and methodology of pragmatics.
