Deep and original understanding of Human civilizations and their histories is a major feature of the historical works of William H. McNeill. In terms of academic connection, there was a close relationship between McNeill and Arnold J. Toynbee. It is therefore very important for us to look into the academic relationship between these two historians. It is meaningful not only for the study of McNeill's works and personality, but also for a better understanding of the development and changes of the Western scholarship of world history.
