Objective To explor the new development of the convalescent and rehabilitation medical subject since eleventh five-year plan.Methods The relevant history data on establishing and development of the convalescent and rehabilitation medical subjects in PLA were collected,analysed and reviewed.Results The convalescent and rehabilitation medicine is a new frontier branches of science in which convalescent medicine and rehabilitation medicine penetrate and combine with each other. Under the correct decision of our government and PLA medical department, the convalescent and rehabilitation medical subjects established its own academic institution and innovated its own subject mode and set up its own technology and approach.It had a positive effect on health, subhealth, chronic diseases and mental health of disabled persons in the field of prevention, health care, treatment and reha- bilitation.It embodies core values of contributing to society by dealing with various kinds of medical emergencies.Conclusion The convalescent and rehabilitation medicine,as a frontier branches of science, open up a new world.
