因果报应作为一种影响深远的佛教理论,与国人固有的因果报应思想相互激荡、磨合、吸收成为中国社会上自帝王下至贩夫走卒的共同民族心理。同时又与小说这一体裁相互作用,成为中国古代小说的一个母题。《阅微草堂笔记》沿袭传统,借用因果报应手段收集、组织素材,结构故事,用一个个鲜活的例子更直接,更明了的传达圣人"神道设教"的涵义,通过讽刺、揭露、警诫达到劝善惩恶,匡正风气的目的。

As a kind of Buddhist theory, Karma has a far--reaching impact. By struggling and mixing with traditional retaliation for sin, Karma has been the common national psychology for the whole society. At the same time ,with the interaction with novels, Karmas has been the motif of classical literature in China. YUE WEI COTTAGE NOTE followed the tradition which using the means of Karma to collect, organize the material , to express the saint＇s ＂Shinto--based teaching＂ directly by numerous vivid examples. The writer hope to use the way of Irony to exhort the people and to achieve the aim of preaching goodness and collecting general ethos.
