本文从比较体育与运动学的角度出发，结合当今体育发展的现状，论述运动的国际性、运动项目的通用性、运动的商业化、国家政府介入运动管理工作、及学校体育、群众体育、教师的培养、教练员的培养、国际竞技运动白热化、体育事业空前繁荣等方面的发展趋势、特点和突出表现。其中资料来自比较体育与运动学发展的成果，以及本人在体育教学、社会调查中的亲身实践，另外还来自一些国内外的报刊杂志。
