As an important system of the Anglo-American law, punitive damages is being perfected in the long history of development and influences the judiciary of many countries as well as the continent law system. It has also been established in some relavant law documents in our country,making a positive effect for the market economy.As any legal system shoald fits the situa- tion of a country,it seems to be an essential problem to establish an appropriate bound of the sum of the punitive damages.An reasonable limitation can direct the judgement,bring the system＇s function into play and maintain the stabilization of the social economy. To design a suitable bound of the sum of the punitive damages, we should combine the judicatory.social economy and culture of our country and oonsult the existent experience of other countries.
