In order to raise the academic level of heavy rain research, improve our ability to monitor and predict heavy rains, facilitate the interaction between research and operation, and academic exchange between the national key project and operational staff of various levels, the National Basic Theoretical Research Project ＂Research on Theories and Methods of Monitoring and Predicting of Heavy Rainfall in South China＂ and the State Key Laboratory of Severe Weather jointly sponsored the workshop on 26 to 28 September 2008 in Beijing.
