Metaphor and Context Based on the Relevance Theory

以关联理论为理论依据,对隐喻和语境进行了阐述,提出隐喻是正常语言交际的一部分,隐喻的理解实际上就是在适当的语境下或通过语境的补充和扩展寻求事件之间的关联,获得最佳理解效果的一个过程。在交际中,人们根据人类的认知假设去理解话语,如果说话人或作者提到两种"风马牛不相及"的两种事物,读者或听者需要积极寻找两种事物之间存在的相互关联,然后在其共有的认知基础上进行一系列推理,最后才能真正理解其中的隐含意义。

This paper, based on the Relevance Theory, expounds metaphor and context, points out that metaphor is a normal part of language communication, and metaphor interpretation is a process in which some relationship between items in the context or beyond is developed and the best interpretation is achieved. In communication, people interpret the discourse by the human cognition theory. In order to truly understand the implied meaning by the speakers or writers, it is necessary for listeners or readers to find out the interrelated relationship between two items in a sentence, which are not matched to each other, and finally try to give a series of reasoning on the basis of common cognition .
