A Close Study on the Proposition of "Manipulation" in Translation Studies

"操纵"是翻译研究文化转向中的一个关键词。它以其福柯式的知识考古视角凸显了翻译与权力之间的关系,刷新了人们对翻译的认识,同时也以其或彰显或隐含的一种消解"规范"的危险为翻译研究埋下了不安的种子。从学术背景、有效性标准与有效性限度三个方面入手,对这一为翻译研究带来革命性影响的命题展开学理透视,肯定了由它所带来的认识新知,也指出了它的学术边界。

＂Manipulation＂ is a key word in the Cultural Turn of translation studies. With its Foucaultian style of knowledge archaeology,＂ manipulation＂ highlights the relationship between translation and power, brings a completely new understanding of translation, and at the same time runs the risk of dispelling ＂norms＂ altogether, causing a feeling of unease in the circle of translation studies. This paper conducts a close study on this proposition of ＂manipulation＂, traces its academic background, analyses its standard of validity and locates its limit of validity. The new perspective of ＂knowing＂ is affairrned, and its academic boundary also pointed out.
