Directed by Michael Radford,the 2004 film version of The Merchant of Venice is the latest one of Shakespeare s famous comedy.Through the visual elements superimposed on the drama text and the cutting of certain lines,Radford s film version puts too much emphasis on Shylock as a victimized hero thus over-justifies and oversimplifies his image as a complicated Jew.
