Analysis of ROK's Participation in the Vietnam War

韩国参与越战是一段鲜为人知的历史。1964年以后,应美国的要求,韩国5次向越南派兵。1966年至1973年间,在越南的韩军一直维持在近五万人的水平上。为此,美国以工资、津贴以及经济和军事援助的形式向韩国支付了大笔"佣金"。这些额外的外汇收入成为20世纪六七十年代韩国经济"奇迹"的动力之一,而赴越韩军也因此成为美国变相的雇佣军。

The participation of the Republic of Korea in the Vietnam War is virtually unknown for the common people.The Republic of Korea had dispatched non-combat troops or combat troops to Vietnam five times after 1964 at the request of the United States.From 1966 to 1973,the number of ROK military army in Vietnam maintained about 50 thousand.The United State paid ROK a great deal of commission in the form of salary,allowance,and economic and military assistance.This U.S.payment became one of the driving forces for ROK to achieve its economic ＂miracle＂ of the 1960s and 1970s.However,exactly for this reason,the ROK units in Vietnam became actually mercenary army of the USA.
