The Original Meaning of "Lu Carol: Pan Palace"

《诗经.鲁颂.泮水》是一首祭祀颂歌,描述了僖公在泮宫祭祀先祖周公之事,并通过比兴、铺陈、反复、夸饰等修辞方式,极力颂扬周公征伐淮夷之功、教化民心之德。因周公辅佐成王、征伐淮夷、安抚天下的文治武功,祭祀时得以用天子之礼,故鲁国作颂称扬其功,告于神明,正如《毛诗序》所云"颂者,美盛德之形容,以其成功,告于神明者也"。

“Lu Carol： Panshui” was a carol used when offering sacrifices （to gods or ancestors）, which related the achievement of Duke Zhou by Duke Xi in Pan Palace, by the way of ＂metaphor＂, ＂iexpatiation＂, ＂repetition＂ and ＂exaggeration＂ to praise highly Duke Zhou＇s merits of conquering Huaiyi and to cultivate the moral of people. Duke Zhou assisted King Cheng, conquered Huaiyi,, comforted the world people, so he could be offered sacrifices in the ceremony of the King. Kingdom Lu made up the carol to praise his merits in the face of gods, just as what was said in the preface of Mao＇s poem, ＂chrol, is used to beautify the plenty of moral and to tell the merits to the gods. ＂
