摘要
戏剧中的称呼可暗示人物身份,点明人物的某一特征,明示人物间的相互关系,表达人物的情感态度。翻译戏剧乃至文学作品中的各种称呼,应尽量保留原文称呼的这些功能。有特定含义的称呼,应尽可能在译本中有所体现;译人名尽可能像人名,尽可能音义兼顾;只要译语语言文化允许,同一称呼尽量用同一译名,不同称呼尽量用不同译名。莎士比亚剧本中一些人名的现有译名如you和thou的译法可根据上述原则加以改进。
Forms of address in plays may suggest the identities of the characters,specify their traits,indicate relationships among them and convey their emotions and attitudes. In translating these forms in plays or other literary works,these functions should be retained as much as possible. The meaning contained or implied in a form of address should be carried over in the translation; a translated personal name should sound like a name in both phonology and meaning; where the target culture or language permit,one English form of address should be rendered into one Chinese counterpart and different forms of address should be rendered differently. In accordance with the principles above,the current Chinese translations of personal names as well as you and thou in Shakespeare's plays could be improved.
