Objective To determine the effect of spinal anesthesia and epidural anesthesia on neonatal BP in the first day of life. Methods 120 cases of elective caesarean section were randomly arranged to group E(epidural anesthesia) and group S(spinal anesthesia). Neonatal systolic BP and diastolic BP were recorded in 24 h endpoint and 48 h endpoint. Results Spinal anaesthesia was associated with a lower systolic BP reading on first 2/1 h, bul not with diastolic BP reading(P〈0.05 and P:〉0.05, respectively). There was no difference between two groups on 48h reading. Conclusion Spinal anaesthesia is associated with a statistically lower systolic BP on the first day of life.
