Implications of Content Schema on ESL Reading Comprehension

阅读被认为是一种交互信息处理过程,图式理论对英语阅读具有强有力的理论指导意义。图式理论中的内容图式对英语阅读发挥着举足轻重的作用,它是影响英语阅读理解成功与否的一个重要因素。因此,在阅读过程中应注重在课堂时间、课外时间内积累和激活内容图式,以达到提高英语阅读水平的目的。

In the past decades, reading has been considered to be interactive information processing, which has developed in schema theory. It is proved that schema theory offers powerful theoretical guidance to ESL reading and content schema exerts a great influence on ESL reading comprehension. Since content schema is an important factor that influences ESL reading comprehension, this paper mainly analyses content schema as well as its effect on ESL reading, and further discusses how to accumulate and activate students＇content schema, so as to improve their ESL reading comprehension.
