The four treasures of the study, including writing brush, ink stick, ink slab and paper, have been favored as curios by emperors,noblemen and elite scholars in dynastic China. The appreciation and collection of the four treasures of the study began in the Sui and Tang dynasties [581 - 907 AD) and widely practiced in the Ming and Qing dynasties [1368 - 1911]. Besides these four treasures, many other study objects have also been favorites of collectors, such as brush screen, brush pot, brush washer, paper weight, ruler.
