South Korea＇s Samsung Electronics Co. on January 7 reported the highest quar- terly sales ever in the fourth quarter last year. The world＇s largest maker of memory chips and flat screen TVs said its consoli- dated fourth-quarter sales is expected to reach a record 39 trillion won （34.5 billion U.S, dollars）, up 18.2 percent compared with 33 trillion won （29.2 billion U.S. dollars） over the same period of 2008.
