Cognitive Construal of Grammatical Metaphor

Grammatical metaphor is the research focus of systemic-functional grammar. This paper approaches it from the cognitive linguistics perspective, trying to provide cognitive construal with more adequate theoretical evidence. The paper first argues against the hypothesis that the congruent and metaphorical expressions share the same meaning. And Systemic-functional and cognitive approaches are contrasted to illuminate how they can be complemented rather than contradictory in research method and so on. It points out that grammatical gmetaphor, as a cognitive construct, can be cognitively construed adequately with an integrated cognitive-functional approach. It finally elaborates how grammatical metaphors can be construed by perspective and so on.
