Diekens'A Tale of Two Cities depicted the whole picture of the great revolution in France. Dickens held a complicated attitude towards the great relation. On the one hand he sympathized the common people and recognized the coming of revolution; on the other hand he described the revolution in a horrifying way and showed his reflections on and negative attitude towards it. Although his attitudes towards the revolution were fairly different, the two attitudes were consistent intrinsically, reflecting Dickens' humanistic ideas and his erroneous understanding of revolution. This paper attempts to find out the paths of change of the author's attitudes and offer some explanations of this change.
