Exploratory Analysis of Vague Digital Terms and Its Pragmatic Function in English Business Report

研究模糊数字语在英语经济新闻中的使用情况。通过对15篇新闻报道的统计分析,归纳了英语经济新闻中三种常见的模糊数字语类型,统计各类型模糊数字语的使用频率,并分析其语用功能。模糊数字语在英语经济新闻中的合理使用可以使报道更加客观、准确、生动、重点突出、富有吸引力。

Based on first-hand examples from English news report, this paper probes into the proper use of vague digital terms in English business reporting. Statistics show that three phenomena of vague digital terms frequently appear in English business report： vague additives, vagueness by choice of vague words and figure of speech, which is determined by their special pragmatic functions, such as to highlight news events, to report the news objectively, to be more appealing to the readers as well as the reflection of the charm of language ： the interaction of accuracy and vagueness.
