He may be called the ＂mouthpiece＂ in the medical area. This essay elaborates on the three fundamentally important qualities of editors of medical journals, namely political quality, professional quality and the quality to bring forth new ideas. Special emphasis is laid on the quality to bring forth new ideas, such a quality for future development and progress. In this paper, the discuss on how to improve the professional quality of the medical editor is given, combining with the characteristics of medical journals and the nature of editor work, and the views of the author are put forward.
