Self-confess and the punishment shall be exempted in Tanglv（ Code of Tang Dynasty） and Songxingtong（ Code of Song Dynasty）was a basic principle. The article aims to clarify the original connotation of this lawful term, and to describe its implement, disputes and adjustment of this term in dealing with penal offences such as homicide, robbery, ect.
