随着晚清上海的开埠,西方文明的冲击,传统娱乐方式开始商业化、市场化,弹词女艺人群体应运而生。其产生、发展直到消亡,有其深刻的社会经济原因。其演出场所、空间、方式及其流变都表现出庸俗化、色情化的特征,与江南其他城市有较大差异。然而,造成沪上女弹词悲剧结局的根本原因在于晚清上海城市社会的近代转型。

In Late Qing,Tanci（storytelling to the accompaniment of stringed instruments） actresses emerged as Shanghai opened to the outside world,Western civilization had strong impacts and traditional entertainment was being commercialized.Their appearance,growth and disappearance all have socio-economic influence.Compared with other cities in the lower reaches of Changjiang River,all of the location,space,patterns,and varieties of their performances bear the characteristics of vulgarity and even eroticism.The essential cause of the Shanghai actresses＇ tragic ending lies in the fact of social transformation of Shanghai into a modern city.
