The Transference of Cultural Images in Translation

由于民族文化的差异,相同的客观事物在不同文化背景的人群中所形成的主观意象是不同的。在翻译的过程中,译者应尽可能地弄清楚与地理环境、民族历史、宗教习俗等密切相关的语言现象,谨慎地处理某些特定的文化意象;否则,一个文化意象的缺损,极有可能导致文化涵义的支离破碎。

Due to different national cultures, subjective images from the same objective things may vary among people with diverse cultural backgrounds. Therefore, in the process of translation, translators should endeavor to understand the language phenomenon related to geographical environment, national history, religion and customs and cautiously deal with some particular cultural images. Otherwise, the loss of cultural images will arise, thus leading to the fragmentation of cultural meanings.
