认知语言学认为,空间隐喻是一种意象图式隐喻,它将作为源域的空间概念投射到抽象的目标域,是给一个概念空间意义。在所有隐喻中,空间隐喻对人类的概念形成具有特别重要的意义,许多抽象概念都必须通过空间隐喻来构建。因此,空间隐喻在帮助人们理解许多非空间概念上起着重要的作用,常被用来构建范围、状态、数量、感观、时间和社会等级等抽象概念。

According to the cognitive linguistics, spatial metaphor is an image schema metaphor, which occurs when a spatial structure mapping onto a non-spatial concept by giving the concept a spatial orientation. Since space experience is one of the most common one in human life, people are likely to conceptualize the abstract domains through the spatial metaphors. Thus, spatial metaphors play an important role in understanding nonspatial concepts, and entend to abstract target domains as scope, state, quantity, time, sense and social hierarchy.
