铁路与欲望——电影《金山》的文化症候阅读

Railway and Desire——A Culturally Symptomatic Reading on Iron Road

太平洋铁路的修筑,是加拿大民族-国家认同建构过程中的奠基性事件。与此同时,曾经为铁路修筑做出极大贡献与牺牲的华裔劳动力,却无法分享这一北美民族主义的叙述基调,他们被剥夺、受压抑的移民经验则成为北美华裔文化书写的持久性命题。循乎此,电影《金山》(Iron Road,2008)也许可以成为跨文化研究中的一个有趣个案:影片由加拿大-香港-中国内地多方合作完成,共同书写了一部加拿大华裔劳工的"血泪史诗"。我们首先可以将其视为60年代以降,北美少数族裔文化运动的迟滞胜利;然则,考虑到影片事实背后,多国融资的电影事实,加拿大官方资金在其中所占的高额比重,以及影片中的内地与香港演员的角色配置,对于这一文本的讨论,势必要延伸到亚太经济结构中来思考。笔者认为电影《金山》向观者发出了如下信息:面对已然崛起的新-新中国,环太平洋区域中的华人所占据的位置,有待重估。

The construction of the Pacific Railway laid a foundation for Canadian national identification. Meanwhile, the experience that Chinese immigrants who made great contribution and sacrifices to this project could not share the keynote of the national dream is represented as an eternal theme in the Chinese Canadian literary texts. In this context, I will scrutinize a Cana- dian - Chinese Co - production film, Iron Road （ dir. David Wu, 2008） which focuses on the contribution of Chinese Laborers to the Canadian Pacific Railway and outlines an immigrant epic. The film could be regarded as a delayed victory of minority culture movement which starts from 1960s; however, in view of the multinational movie industry, Canadian official capital in the pattern of investment, and the character sets, this film would have to be analyzed in the Asia - Pacific economic structure. This paper considers the Chinese immigrants in Iron Road represent the Global Chinese in Pacific Rim and embody the capital- ist and nationalist desire for Asia - Pacific regional integration.
