北京古观象台是明、清两代的皇家天文台。它的建筑古朴典雅,独具明代特色,是目前我国现存天文台遗址中保存最为完整的一座。本文就北京古观象台的建筑始末和建筑特色、其中发生的重大历史事件以及它在中外文化交流中特殊历史作用、特殊价值进行论述,以期引发读者对于工程建筑与文化发展的关系、工程建筑对于历史事件的表征作用等问题做进一步思考。本文认为,古观象台作为中外文化交流的纽带,见证了许多重大历史事件,更好地研究和保护这一珍贵的古代天文工程建筑遗存是我们的历史责任。

The Beijing Ancient Observatory was the Royal Observatory of Ming and Qing Dynasties. Showing the characteristics of Ming Dynasty, the building is ancient and classic, and is one of China＇s best preserved observatory sites. This article describes the history,architectural features,historic events and special historic role and value in cultural exchange between China and the West of the Beijing Ancient Observatory.By reviewing all these, the author expects to arose readers＇thinking on the relationship between engineering construction and cultural development, as well as the characterization role of some historic events. The Beijing Ancient Observatory is a key link of cultural exchange beween China and the West and it witnessed many important historical events. So the author thinks that it is our historical responsibility to research and protect this precious ancient astronomical engineering architecture.
