湖南商民运动在兴起阶段的特点,首先是对待商会的态度与策略方面,与国民党中央商民运动决议案所确定的方略明显不同。其次是在湖南一些地区商民协会建立的过程中,共产党人发挥了比较突出的作用与影响。湖南各地广大商人以商民协会为依托,踊跃开展了各项活动,以前所未有的政治热情积极支持国民革命,参加反帝爱国运动。许多商民协会也积极承担组织商人支持革命,以及保护中小商人利益和促进工商业发展的任务,从而使湖南商民运动获得了迅速发展。
