Studies on rough dwarf disease of maize were carried out in Jiangsu Province from 1995 to 1997. The disease occured mostly in the counties of coastal area. Leaves of infected plants appeared dark green with some enations on the vein, and internade shortened, then plants dwarfed severely. Maize rough dwarf disease could be transmitted by small brown rice planthopper (Laodelphax striatellus) , and its pathogen was rice black streaked dwarf virus (RBSDV). The methods to control this disease were also suggested.
