论芮效卫《金瓶梅》英译本的体制与策略

Study of the Translation Strategies of Chin P'ing Mei by David Roy

《金瓶梅》英译始于19世纪中期,至今已有两个100回全译本。美国著名汉学家芮效卫(David Tod Roy)以《金瓶梅词话》为原文蓝本翻译的英译本The Plumin the Golden Vase作为其中之一,被西方读者称为迄今为止最好的《金瓶梅》译本。本文以该译本的译者序为主要研究对象,并结合西方读者的评论,从版本的选择、翻译的体制、翻译的目的、翻译的策略和方法等方面对芮译本的特征进行了分析和考察,以期给中国典籍英译以及翻译研究本身带来一些启示。

With David Tod Roy＇s ＂Introduction＂ to his version of Chin P＇ing Mei and the reviews of the version from Western readers as its study cases, this paper analyzes the features of Roy＇s translation from such aspects as the ＂choice of edition＂, the ＂stylistic rules and layout＂, the ＂translation purpose＂, and the ＂translation strategy and methods＂, aiming to explore the possible revelations that this retranslation may bring to translation practice and translation studies.
