OUTLINE/Aaron Copland is regarded as the most outstanding composer in the 20th-century America.He was also a conductor, pianist,lecturer as well as theorist,widely known as'the dean of American composers.'As a film composer,he had written about 10 Hollywood film scores:his music for Of Mice and Men,Our Town and The North Star were nominated for Academy Awards and The Heiress actually won the award in 1948. Among his extensive oeuvre are two operas: the one-act The Second Hurricane(1936) and The Tender Land(1954).Among all American composers of the 20th century,only Leonard Bernstein's artistic achievements can be compared with Copland.
