Objective:To observe treatment effect of zinc when using to therapy the infants and young children with recurrent respiratory tract infection.Methods:60 cases of out-patient children and infants with recurrent respiratory tract infection and serum zine values less than the normal were selected and were randomly divided into two groups (30 cases in control group while 30 cases in observe group).Contrast to the control group treated with the conventional therapy only,a daily dose of 0.5mg/kg zinc for 2 months was served to the observe group. The change of the serum zinc values within 1 month and 2 months was observed in both groups, furthermore, the incidencee of respiratory tract infection 1 year after end of treatment and the drug toxicity were observed, too. Results:The value of serum zinc 1 and 2 month after treatment of the observed group was significantly higher than the control group. The incidence of respiratory tract infection 1 year after treatment in the observd group was significantly lower than the control group.Non-toxic side effects were observed. Conclusion:The effect of zinc on recurrent respiratory tract infection have a certain effect,it is worth promoting.
