评西方学者论述北京城市规划建设四例

Comment on Four Cases About the Programme and Construction of Beijing City Expounded by the Western Scholars

西方学者对北京城市规划建设的历史有许多一般描述和专题论著。地理学家Ｇ·泰勒首次把有关北京城的建址问题提到现代城市地理学的研究上来进行。北京城在规划设计上的中轴线，有着悠久的历史渊源，Ｐ·卫德礼教授提出中国城市中的中心大路的重要性，不在于视觉上的突出，而在于其象征意义。北京旧城的总体设计，在西方的建筑家和城市规划学者中得到了高度的评价，旧城的整体设计对今天的城市建设仍具有重要的参考价值。

The Western scholars have written many works about the history of programme of Beijing City.At the first time Geographer G.Taylor studied the problem about choicing place of Beijing City from the angle of geography of modern city.The centre line of Beijing is a historical result.P.Wheatley put forward that it is a symbolic but not outstanding eye impressions.The Western architects and scholars in city programme set a high value on overall plan of old Beijing City.This overall plan has important significance to the present city construction.
