Cormac McCarthy (1933 - ) is a Pulitzer Prize-winning contemporary American novelist. Literary critic Harold Bloom has named him as one of the four major American novelists of his time, along with Thomas Pynchon, Don DeLillo, and Philip Roth. The three novels, All the Pretty Horses, The Crossing and Cities of the Plain, of Cormac McCarthy's Border Trilogy constitute a genuine American epic. McCarthy chronicles the lives of two young cowboys in the Southwest of America and Mexico. They are poising on the edge of a world and willing to seek their ideal paradise. Filled with sorrow and absurdity, the Border Trilogy is a masterful elegy for the American frontier.
