The place name "yina" is a transliteration of the Yi language. Rather, it is the modulated sound of the Hmong expression " na" whose original meaning is "rice". "yina", as a linguistic fossil, bears testimony to the westward spread of rice culture, and is loaded with the most primitive information of the ancient kingdom of "Yelang".
