Discussing the problematical notions of authenticity that My Year of Meats raises, the author argues that hybridity is the central and defining feature the novel posits of identity in the early 21st century. Building on a mass of theories about globalization, the article maintains that the novel raises profoundly difficult questions--ones not easily answered--about identity politics in an age of globalization. In many ways, the open-endedness of this novel produces many blanks, and it is the goal of this article to fill at least some of those blanks.
