Botho Strauss pays close attention to the state of individual being in the Federal Republic of Germany. Usually by analyzing the relations between lovers or family members, he reveals the failings of interpersonal understanding and individual loneliness. This is demonstrated by the major role, Lotte, of the drama Big and Little. Furthermore, Strauss finds that " the selfdetermined individuality is the most brazen lie of reason", because he is doubtful about the individual identities of the contemporary world.
